ZACH ROBERTS

PEOC Executive Director

Zach Roberts is the Director of the Pittsburgh Elite Officiating Camps. He founded PEOC in 2012.

Zach currently officiates professional ice hockey in the American Hockey League and the ECHL. The 2019-20 season marks his eighth year on the ice in the AHL and thirteenth in the ECHL. Zach has earned multiple Calder Cup Playoffs (AHL) and Kelly Cup Playoff (ECHL) appearances. He was also selected to officiate the 2017 CCM ECHL All-Star Classic in Glens Falls, NY.

Zach also currently officiates NCAA Division I Men's hockey in the Big Ten Conference. He has previously officiated collegiate hockey in Atlantic Hockey, the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, College Hockey America and the ECAC.

In addition to his collegiate and professional hockey officiating experience, Zach was also a member of USA Hockey's Officiating Development Program (ODP), and was selected to officiate multiple USA Hockey Junior National Championships. During his time with the ODP, Zach was selected to attend USA Hockey's Regional and National Officiating Development Camps.

Additionally, Zach is a current member of the USA Hockey Officiating Development Program (ODP) Supervision Staff, evaluating officials at the USHL, NAHL, and NA3HL levels of play. He also has instructed at numerous USA Hockey seminars and camps.

Zach is a native of the Pittsburgh, PA area. He attended Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and MBA from South University. Zach and his wife Jaime reside in Irwin, PA with their son, Connor, and daughters, Riley and Reagan.

RAY KING

PEOC Development Director

Ray King is the Development Director of the Pittsburgh Elite Officiating Camps. He has held this position with PEOC since 2014. 

Ray currently officiates professional hockey in the American Hockey League. He also currently officiates major-junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League. Ray previously worked in the ECHL, working 700 regular season games and earning the ECHL's Birmingham Award in 2014.

Ray also currently officiates NCAA Division I Men's hockey as a linesman in the Big Ten. He has previously officiated varsity collegiate hockey in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, College Hockey America, Atlantic Hockey and the ECAC.

Additionally, Ray is a member of the USA Hockey Officiating Program Instruction Staff and has instructed at many Mid-Am District seminars and Regional Camps.  

Ray is also a current Supervisor for the USA Hockey Officiating Development Program, evaluating officials in the USHL and NAHL.

Ray attended Erie Cathedral Prepatory High School and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Edinboro University. Ray and his wife Nora now reside in Erie, PA.

FRANK BASTONE

PEOC Operations Director

Frank Bastone is the Program Director of the Pittsburgh Elite Officiating Camps. He was selected to attend the very first PEOC in 2012, and has been involved in every camp since, both as a participant and as an instructor. 

Frank currently officiates in the USA Hockey’s Officiating Development Program (ODP) as a linesman. He also officiates collegiate hockey as a linesman and a referee in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference of the NCAA. 

In 2013, Frank became a USA Hockey Seminar Instructor following his attendance at the

Eastern Instructors Seminar in Lake Placid, NY. At this camp, Frank earned the Milt Kaufman award which is given to the official who most exemplifies hard work and dedication to officiating. Frank brings a special passion to every game he works. In his career,

Frank is from Pittsburgh, PA. He currently lives in Allegheny Township with his wife, Missy.

FURMAN SOUTH

PEOC Instructor

Furman South (Sewickley, PA) currently officiates professional hockey in the National Hockey League and American Hockey League. His previous officiating experience includes officiating in USA Hockey’s Officiating Development Program, where he worked games in the USHL, NAHL and SPHL.

Furman was selected to officiate the 2015 National Hockey League Prospects Camp in Traverse City, MI. He was also selected to attend the National Hockey League Officiating Combine in Buffalo, NY the same year. Prior to his career in officiating, Furman played NCAA Division I hockey for Robert Morris University.

BRANDON BLANDINA

PEOC Instructor

Brandon Blandina (Centennial, CO) is current American Hockey League and National Hockey League referee.

Brandon played two seasons of professional hockey in the ECHL, suiting up with the Elmira Jackals and Reading Royals and played NCAA Division I hockey at Robert Morris University.

Blandina is the second alumnus of Robert Morris University to join the NHL as an official. Blandina officiated in the AHL last season and earned his first assignment in the NHL in the 2018-19 season.

DENNIS URBAN

PEOC Instructor

Dennis Urban (Pittsburgh, PA) currently officiates professional hockey in the ECHL and American Hockey League. Dennis also currently officiates in USA Hockey’s Officiating Development Program (ODP), where he has experience including working in leagues such as the USHL and NAHL.

Prior to his career in officiating, Dennis formerly played NCAA Division I hockey for Robert Morris University. Dennis also had a multiple-season professional hockey playing career in leagues such as the American Hockey League, ECHL and in Europe.

J.R. STRAGAR

PEOC Instructor

J.R. Stragar (Pittsburgh, PA) currently officiates professional hockey in the ECHL and Southern Professional Hockey League. He also officiates junior hockey in the United States Hockey League for USA Hockey's Officiating Development Program. 

Additionally, J.R. was selected to officiate the USHL's 2018 NHL Top Prospects Game. He has

also participated in multiple USA Hockey Tier I National Championships and was selected to attend USA Hockey’s Regional and National Development Camps. J.R. was also a two-time PEOC participant.

ZANE STOUT

PEOC Instructor

Zane Stout (Murrysville, PA) currently officiates minor professional hockey in the ECHL and Southern Professional Hockey League. He also officiates junior hockey in the United States Hockey League for the USA Hockey Officiating Development Program. 

Additionally, Zane has participated in multiple USA Hockey Tier I National Championships, He also was selected to attend USA Hockey’s Regional and National Development Camps. 

PAT JACOBS

PEOC Instructor

Patrick Jacobs (Altoona, PA) currently officiates in the USHL and NAHL with USA Hockey’s Officiating Development Program. He has officiating in the ODP full-time for numerous seasons. He has been selected to work the 2017 NA3HL Silver cup, the 2016 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament, and multiple NA3HL playoffs.

Additionally, Patrick has been selected to work multiple Tier I USA Hockey National Championships, including the 2017 U-16 Tier I National Championship Game.

GARRETT GAYDOSH

PEOC Instructor

Garrett Gaydosh (Pittsburgh, PA) is a current member of the USA Hockey Officiating Development Program and officiates in the North American Hockey League. He has previously been on the officiating rosters of the United States Hockey League and Southern Professional Hockey League.

Garrett also currently officiates NCAA Hockey in College Hockey America, the Eastern

Collegiate Athletic Conference and Atlantic Hockey. He has also been selected to attend USA Hockey Regional Camp and National Camp. Garrett is also a member of the USA Hockey Seminar Instruction Staff and is a USA Hockey Officiating Supervisor.

AUSTIN MARCH

PEOC Instructor

Austin March (Pittsburgh, PA) returns to the Pittsburgh Elite Officiating Camps as an instructor for the second consecutive summer in 2021


A PEOC Alumnus himself, Austin currently officiates minor professional hockey in the Southern Professional Hockey League, and junior hockey in the United States Hockey League and North American Hockey League for USA Hockey's Officiating Development Program. 

CHADD COLIN

PEOC Instructor

Chadd currently officiates NCAA hockey in the ECAC as well as ACHA and Tier I amateur hockey. His prior officiating experience includes USA Hockey District Tournaments in both the Mid-American and Atlantic Districts. He has also officiated Junior hockey in the CHA, EJHL, IJHL, and UJHL. At the National level, he has officiated the 2013 USA Hockey Tier I National Championships, the 2015 Penguin Cup Finals, and the 2015 Pittsburgh Penguins NHL Rookie Camp.

North American Hockey League / USA Hockey ODP

Keith Kaval (Erie, PA) is currently the Director of Officiating for the North American Hockey League.

He previously officiated professional hockey in the Kontinental Hockey League, American Hockey League, ECHL, CHL and UHL. He also previously officiates major-junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League and NCAA Division I Men's hockey in Hockey East. Keith was also a

member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) officiating staff and has worked in several international tournaments, including the IIHF World Championships.

STEPHEN THOMSON

ECHL

Stephen Thomson (Depew, NY) is the current ECHL Manager of Officiating. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the League’s Officiating Department including oversight of on-ice officials, administration of rules and directives, travel and administration of officials, communications with the National Hockey League and American Hockey League on ECHL officials, and the ECHL Rule Book.

Prior to this position, Stephen was a referee in the ECHL and was selected to work the Kelly Cup Finals in both 2017 and 2018 and the 2018 CCM/ECHL All-Star Classic. Thomson also worked as a referee in the American Hockey League. Additionally, Stephen was a graduate of USA Hockey's ODP and worked as a referee in the NAHL, USHL and multiple IIHF tournaments, including the 2018 World Junior Championships.

USA Hockey Mid-American District

Jim Weaver (Pittsburgh, PA) is currently the USA Hockey Mid-American District Referee-in-Chief. He is also currently a USA Hockey Officiating Program Supervisor and member of the USA Hockey Seminar Instruction Staff.  

Jim has also been an off-ice official with the National Hockey League (NHL) since 1994.

USA Hockey Mid-American District

Mike Trego (Butler, PA) currently the USA Hockey Officiating Seminar Coordinator for the Mid-American District in Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia. 

Mike currently officiates high school, ACHA college and Tier I amateur hockey throughout the Mid-American District. Mike also currently serves as an Officiating Development Coach for Pennsylvania Hockey Officiating (PIHO) to evaluate and mentor younger and less experienced officials develop and succeed.

Mike has been an official for more than 30 years and worked at all levels, including selections to USA Hockey State, District and National tournaments. Mike is also a current member of the USA Hockey Officiating Program Instruction Staff and has presented at numerous seminars. He has also attended USA Instructor's Camp in Lake Placid, N.Y.

College Hockey East

Dave Fryer (Oakdale, PA) is the current commissioner of College Hockey East, an ACHA Collegiate league at the Division III level comprised of teams from six states.

Dave has previously worked in an administrative role with other local amateur, scholastic, and collegiate hockey leagues - as well as multiple officiating organizations. Dave has been a USA Hockey official for over twenty years and has instructed at many USA Hockey Camps and District Officiating Seminars
